Those who know do not speak; those who speak do not know

Things are brought forth,
but no one knows from where.
They spring up,
but no one knows from what.Zhuang Zi (Taoist philosopher, 300 BCE)
The world has many scientists who develop theories about phenomena that are beyond the understanding of the limited human mind. They seek and find evidence, present it to like-minded individuals who in turn approve the theory, thus turning it into a kind of reality. In many cases, these fabricated realities have little to do with actual reality.
Nevertheless, these discoverers often win awards for results that satisfy even the financiers of their research. Humans, after all, want to earn money and cling to certainties. These theoretical proofs are accepted as certainties, though in truth, they don’t exist. Thankfully, there is always human hope to help overcome fear of the unknown.
Even in the 21st century, there isn’t a scientist who can explain how things are brought forth or what they spring from. There are countless theories, yet even the greatest scientists, like Einstein, were not convinced. He too continued to believe in an inexplicable universal creative force.
In Zhuang Zi’s time, at least it was acknowledged that no one knew anything about the origin of things. In these times of material intellect, the mind cannot accept that something greater than humanity itself might exist.
I have a fondness for Taoists. Observing, looking into the mirror that nature provides, and discovering the path within yourself. Words are always inadequate; they rarely capture the essence. There’s no need to explain intellectually—only to experience physically. And that requires courage. Over time, this leads to inner knowing.
Those who know do not speak; those who speak do not know.
When I read Zhuang Zi’s words, a profound relaxation comes over my mind and body. A smile even appears. Because how bad is it not to know something intellectually? I still know very little. But I am learning to feel more deeply and to see myself in relation to nature, people, and the universe.
Will you join me on Sunday to explore further the role your unconscious mind plays and how it essentially determines your life? To see how you are not actually in control? Because, in essence, my lessons are about becoming aware of who is steering your life. Human possibilities are truly limitless here.
I look forward to seeing you again, and if not, perhaps next time.
Warm regards,
Liesbeth
