On Sunday, I spoke about the three amazing tools we have been given to live our lives:
Our body
Our mind
Our emotions
Practising hatha yoga is a means for me to become aware of those three tools.
Why this is necessary?
To learn to make those three work for me instead of the other way around. For most people, body, mind and emotions determine their behaviour and whole life. The physical pain (there is always discomfort somewhere), thoughts and stories in your mind and emotions that confirm those discomforts. Notice how you are a victim of that pain in your knee, the worry about tomorrow and the fear you feel about all that.
Be honest when you look at yourself! You notice it immediately when you tell yourself that it happens to you, that it's in your genes and there's nothing you can do about it.
Do you want to live like that?
It can be done differently and you have these three tools available for the purpose. Once you are aware of that, you will still encounter all things human - positive and negative - that's for sure. You will just never again feel victimised by anyone or any situation and be able to live in freedom. Freedom in your mind!
So for me, yoga is a tool. Simply put, it trains your ability to concentrate. Once you realise that you can actually feel your foot, for example, or your leg, then you can also never hurt yourself or suffer an injury. All your attention is focused on a point in the moment. That's why yoga calms your mind. There is no room for wandering vagabond thoughts because you are focused and so it also calms your body and your emotions.
So yoga is not about getting agile. I'll say it again. That is a consequence of training often. It is an aftereffect. Anyone can do yoga. Coming to awareness only requires guts and willpower.
On Wednesday, we do a variation of Sunday's class which focused on the bladder meridian. Just because I thought it was a lovely class.
Until tomorrow or next time,
Love, Liesbeth
